Fine for Belarusian language

22

Young activists Yaraslau Hryshchanka and Ales Paulouski were detained by policemen on Tuesday evening in Baranavichy.

The young activists were detained during collection of signatures in the framework of the campaign “For Belarusian language!”, and for erecting a monument to pilots who died at an air show in Poland in late August.

“We were gathering signatures near “October” cinema, when policemen detained us for allegedly having no permission for collection of signatures,” Yaraslau Hryshchenya said in an interview to mfront.net website. “However, in the police department we were charged with using foul speech, and a report was drawn up against us under Article 17.1 “petty hooliganism”.

The activists spent the night in the police department. On Wednesday the court of Tsentralny district of Baranavichy fined Yaraslau Hryshchanka and Ales Paulouski 10 basic units each.

It should be noted that 300 sized signatures in defence of the Belarusian language and erection a monument to Belarusian pilots haven’t been returned by policemen.
