Tatsyana Sevyarynets, a coordinator of the BCD party, which is in the process of creation, and BPF activist Kanstantsin Smolikau were summoned for interrogation in a militia department of the Vitsebsk region.
As Radio Svaboda reports, militia officers asked what the activists know about disappearance of memorial crosses near the village of Palyai.
It was Tatsyana Sevyarynets and Kanstantsin Smolikau who informed militia on September 25, 2009, about disappearance of the crosses at the place of mass executions in 1930–40ies. Smolikau wrote to the Voranava village council. The local authorities said they had no relation to the incident and hadn’t given an order to destroy the crosses. Tatsyana Sevyarynets filed a claim to militia.
Militiamen instigated an administrative case, but they say the guilty of vandalism haven’t been found so far. As a result, the claimers, Tatsyana Sevyarynets and Kanstantsin Smolikau, were summoned to militia for interrogation.
According to Tatsyana Sevyarynets, a militiaman asked her about the crosses and also about the plans of the BCD. He asked whether the oppositionist were permitted to set any memorial signs.
A month has passed since the crosses disappeared. Tastyana Sevyarynets doesn’t exclude the sudden activity of militia can be caused by appearance of a new cross in “Vitsebsk Kurapaty”. According to oppositionist Barys Khamaida, it could be done by legendary Miron. Other oppositionists from Vitsebsk are also going to contribute to erecting new crosses.
