Vaclav Havel marks his birthday today

Vaclav Havel, former political prisoner and president of the Czech Republic, celebrates his 73d birthday today.

Vaclav Havel was born on October 5, 1936, in Prague. He is a famous Czech writer, playwright, dissident, human rights activist and politician. Hew was the last president of Czechoslovakia (1989–1992) and the first president of the Czech Republic (1993–2003).

Havel watches closely the situation in Belarus, calling on the world community to take more decisive actions regarding the dictatorial regime of Alyaksandr Lukashenka. The former Czech president is a patron of the Belarus Free Theatre.
