Belarusian businessman Bandarenka on hunger strike placed to prison hospital

A hunger strike of businessman Andrei Bandarenka continues since October 19. He protests against the verdict issued by the court of Pershamajski district of Minsk.

As Radio Svaboda reminds, the businessman, a former activist of the United Civil Party Andrei Bandarenka, has been found guilty of stealing property of the firm and sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment and confiscation of property. As said by his lawyer Zmitser Laeuski, the state of health of his client has considerably deteriorated. Bandarenka has been placed to a hospital.

“We met two days ago, he felt bad. Since that time his state of health seems to become even worse, and he was placed to the republican prison hospital in Kalvaryjskaya Street. Now I am making attempts to see him rapidly,” Zmitser Laeuski said.

Andrei Bandarenka, a businessman, took part in the election to the “chamber of representatives” last year. The UCP activists tried to challenge the results of the elections, and his acquaintances among representatives of authority warned him about possible bad consequences. Bandarenka didn’t abandon his attempts to defend his position. After a while a criminal case was brought up against Andrei Bandarenka, and in early October the businessman was convicted.
