Friends and parliamentary colleagues of vice speaker of the 13th Supreme Council Henadz Karpenka, who died under unclear circumstances, came to his grave.

It should be reminded that vice speaker of the Supreme Council of Belarus of the 13th Convocation died under unclear circumstances from insult to the brain on April 6, 1999.

Henadz Karpenka’s relatives are sure he had death through violence and the Belarusian authorities are involved in this. The family of the vice speaker has been living in Germany for six years, where they gained asylum.

A sudden death of Henadz Karpenka, accompanied by a succession of mysterious events, happened a month before the alternative presidential elections, whose supporters refused to recognized enforced by Lukashenka amendments to the Constitution, allowing extension of his presidential power. Unconditional front-runner and one of the initiators of impeachment to Lukashenka, Henadz Karpenka was a real threat to the acting power.

Famous figures of the country gathered today at the Uskhodniya Cemetery of Minsk, where Henadz Karpenka is buried. Among them were Andrei Sannikov, leader of the civil campaign “European Belarus” and former deputy foreign minister of Belarus; Stanislau Bahdankevich, honorary head of the United Civil Party and former head of the National Bank; former foreign minister of Belarus Valer Krauchanka; Lyudmila Hraznova, deputy head of the United Civil Party and member of the Supreme Council of the 13th Convocation; Yury Khadyka, member of the Soim (Council) of the Belarusian Popular Front Party; coordinator of Charter’97 Zmitser Bandarenka; Zinaida Hanchar, wife of vice speaker of the Supreme Council Viktar Hanchar, kidnapped in 1999; Valery Kastko, chairman of the executive committee of the International Public Association named after Henadz Karpenka; and others.

A concert-requiem in memory of Henadz Karpenka was organized today in the Minsk International Education Center.
