Bandarenka, Ivashkevich, Kazulin, Karnyaenka, Lyabedzka, Statkevich to struggle together

Well-known opposition politicians expressed a desire to struggle together at the oncoming presidential elections at a meeting with the Council of Belarusian Intellectuals.
The meeting was held on June 18. Deputy head of the BPF party Viktar Ivashkevich, head of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka, one of the leaders of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) Mikalai Statkevich, deputy head of the “For Freedom” movement Viktar Karnyaenka, coordinator of Charter’97 Zmitser Bandarenka, and former presidential candidate at the elections of 2006 Alyaksandr Kazulin took part in the event.
The participants of the discussion agreed that the objective of the democratic forces at the presidential elections must be only victory.
Uladzimir Kolas, chairman of the Council of Belarusian Intellectuals, film director and teacher, told in an interview to BelaPAN he was satisfied with the constructive character of the discussion which was held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and demonstrated readiness of all its participants to unite in struggle for the victory in the presidential campaign.
Kolas added that the participants of the discussion said holding fair democratic elections under public control remained topical for Belarus.
A project of the United Democratic Forces on nomination of candidates for the presidential elections is planned to be discussed at the next meeting of the council.
