Lukashenka’s regime asks financial aid from European Union

27

The Finance Ministry of Belarus asks a loan from the European Union.

It has been told by the head of the Finance Ministry of Belarus Andrei Kharkavets (Kharkovets).

“We have sent an address, and are waiting for a reaction. I think that in the next 10 days the results of preliminary consideration of our request and the first reaction are to appear,” he said.

As said by Kharkavets, “mechanisms of macroeconomic financing exist in the European Union”. “The matter concerns consideration of sums at the level of two thirds of deficient financing,” the Finance Minister said.

A. Kharkavets has also stated that the Belarusian side does not discuss with the Russian colleagues the issue of granting $500 mln loan to Belarus.

“We are not discussing this question so far, we are waiting for the IMF response, which is to confirm that our policy is right. We can come to talks with our Russian colleagues with that,” the Finance Minister of Belarus said.

He also added that earlier the Russian side stated that they would like “to wait until the review of the IMF mission is issued”
