Lukashenka’s Belarus participates in Non-Aligned Movement’s summit

Syarhei Martynau, Belarusian Foreign Minister, takes part in the XV summit of the Non-Aligned Movement.

The summit is held on July 13-16 2009 in Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt. The minister has discussed financial and economic crisis and “development of the international solidarity for peace,” the press-service of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus informs.

During the discussions participants of the summit have prepared the text of the draft final document of the meeting, which includes proposals of Belarus.

The Belarusian foreign ministry has noted that the draft final document includes suggestions made by the delegation headed by Syarhei Martynau which are based on Belarus’ priorities in the United Nations including encouragement of the Global Partnership Against Slavery and Trafficking in Human Beings and the adoption of a global plan of action on fighting human trafficking, fostering an effective international mechanism on ensuring access of all countries to new and renewable energy resources technologies, effective realization of the universal periodic review of the UN Human Rights Council, continuation of support of the middle-income countries.

Holding bilateral meetings of Syarhei Martynau with foreign ministers of countries participating in the NAM are planned in the framework of the summit. Issues of mutual interest are to be discussed there.

The Non-Aligned Movement was founded in 1955 after consultations of Egypt, India and former Yugoslavia leaders as a protest against “bipolar system”.
