Kaczynska, Waida and Zanussi met with students of Belarusian lyceum

3

Traditionally, Yakub Kolas Belarusian Lyceum started academic year with a summer session in Poland.

50 per cent of the set of students was renewed, most students had their first opportunity to partake of the hospitalities of the Warsaw Club of Catholic Intellectuals and the Free City of Gdansk, “Nasha Niva” newspaper reports.

Besides the lessons, students had a possibility to meet with Polish President’s wife Maria Kaczynska, vice president of Warsaw Wlodzimierz Paszynski, archbishop of Warsaw Kazimierz Nycz, world-known film directors Krzysztof Zanussi and Andrzej Waida. The latter visited the unique Belarusian institution the next day after the Lyceum staff and students had watched his one of his last films Katyn.

Famous guest Andrzej Waida answered more than 25 questions of the lyceum students and teachers and presented a collection of his films with his autograph on each copy.

The students visited a range of museums in Warsaw, Bialowieza Primaeval Forest, Krakow and Oswiecim. The summer session will continue in Gdansk.

We remind that Belarusian Humanities Lyceum named after Yakub Kolas was the only education establishment in the country with education programme in Belarusian. The regime of Lukashenka closed it down in 2004 on political motives.
