An agreement on simpler border crossing wasn’t signed during Lukashenka’s visit to Vilnius on September 16, though it was planned to make it long ago.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuanian confirmed this information to the BNS news agency.
Two out of three agreements were signed at a meeting between Lithuanian and Belarusian PMs on Wednesday.
“Belarus asked for more time to complete internal procedures,” MFA spokesman Rolandas Kacinkas told BNS on Wednesday.
The agreement on simpler border crossing between Lithuania and Belarus was put on the agenda of Prime Minister Kubilius. The paper supposed that the citizens of Belarus and Lithuania living within a 50-km radius from the border will be able to visit each other across the border for a special permit that costs 20 euro effective for a period of 5 years.
About 800,000 people in Lithuania and 600,000 people in Belarus can apply for these permits.
Commenting on the agreements signed, the prime ministers of Lithuania and Belarus said the issue on border wouldn’t cause problems and the matter of simpler border crossing would be solved in the nearest time.
