Independent trade unions being eliminated in regions

Local authorities offer representatives of trade unions to close primary organizations.

The Council of the Free Belarusian Trade Union received a notice from the administration of the Leninski district of Brest signed by head of the administration Yeutukh offering to liquidate a primary trade union organization of Brest State University named after Pushkin, Radio Racyja reports.

The administration explained the offer with the fact there are less than three members in the primary organization.

However, head of the Council of the Free Belarusian Trade Union Valyantsin Lazarenkau doesn’t agree with this offer, because there are six persons, former officers of university, in the primary organization.

“The administration violates the law, including the recommendations, given by the government on fulfilling the ILO requirements connected with preferences for export,” Valyantsin Lazarenkau says. “Belarus is the only European state that doesn’t have these preferences, because the country violates human rights. This is another proof that the administrations are not going to fulfil the recommendations. Moreover, they want to liquidate the registered seats and stop cooperation with public organizations.”

We remind that on August 13, five university officers had to leave the Free Trade Union due to pressure from the administration.

The Council of the Belarusian Free Trade Union is making a complaint to Alyaksandr Lukashenka and PM Syarhei Sidorski.
