Belarusian presidential candidates Andrei Sannikov and Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu had a meeting with ambassadors of the EU member states.
The meeting held in the Embassy of France in Minsk was visited by ambassadors and representatives of the embassies of most EU countries accredited in Belarus. The subject of the meeting was the upcoming presidential election: the course of the election campaign, the difference between the current campaign and previous ones, opportunities of agitation by presidential candidates, conditions of the election observation.
“I cannot comment on the words of the EU representatives, because it was a closed meeting. I turned their attention to the already recorded violations of the electoral legislation, to evidence of discrimination against presidential candidates, in particular, air time distribution and covering the election campaign by the state media. I said I didn’t believe in honest vote counting and supposed that most falsifications would likely to take place during early voting. At the same time I noted that Belarus was on the verge of changes. I said the dictatorship wouldn’t change in spite of all promises of liberalization it gave to the Belarusians and Europeans. I noted that only democratic Belarus could guarantee compliance with international obligations and normal partnership relations between Europe and Russia,” Andrei Sannikov, the leader of European Belarus civil campaign, told.
