0.5 ton of herrings stolen form prisoners of Belarusian colony

The chief of logistical and administrative support department of the penal colony in Hlubokae has stolen 500 kg of herrings which were intended for nutrition of prisoners.

BelTA was informed about that by the head of the department of supervising legality of judicial decision Axana Baliyeva.

Occupying a high position and having access to warehouse premises, 42-year-old man decided to steal 500 kg of fresh-frozen herring which cost Br 1.5 mln. The operation was divided in two parts. The first consignment of fish was driven away by the chief in his own car а Renault Megane, and the second half was taken by the same car by his subordinate officer. However his subordinate didn’t know about the aims of his boss.

But the attempt of enriching himself at the expense of others was terminated by policemen. The fish was returned to the warehouse of the colony, and a criminal case opened against the violator of the law. The man was sentenced to a fine of about Br 9 mln for theft through abuse of power. He is prohibited to occupy leadership and materially-responsible positions for three years, and besides his car used for the theft was seized.
