Youth activists arrested for picket near Lithuanian Embassy in Belarus

2

Activists Maksim Vinyarski, Palina Kuryanovich, and Palina Dzyakava have been sent to jail in Akrestsin Street until trial.

The young oppositionists held a protest action today morning. They unfurled a banner “No to Cooperation with Belarusian Dictatorship!” near the Embassy of Lithuania in Minsk in Zakharau Street. They expressed their protest against invitation of Alyaksandr Lukashenka to festivities on occasion of the 20th anniversary of Reestablishment of independence of Lithuania.

The young people were detained some minutes later and taken to the Partyzanski militia department of Minsk by militia. Reports under article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences (violation of the rules of mass events) were drawn up against them.

As the oppositionists managed to tell on the phone, later they had been guarded to the jail in Akrestsin Street. They are likely to stand the trial tomorrow.
