Justice Ministry is sorry about the decision of the Economic Court of the CIS to deny granting the motion on temporarily ban on collecting duties on oil products.

“The Justice Ministry has met this decision with regret, as the continuing ungrounded levying the duty for oil products by the Russian side destroys the cooperation ties created between the enterprises of the two countries, and impinges upon interests of more than 70 Belarusian and Russian enterprises and organizations of the petrochemical complex,” Interfax was told by the press-service of the Justice Ministry.

Last Thursday the Economic Court of the CIS denied granting the motion of the Belarusian side made by the Justice Ministry on temporarily ban on collecting duties on oil products delivered from Russia, until the court ‘s final decision in the dispute. According to the established procedures the decision cannot be appealed against.

“The Justice Ministry has to state that over the entire process none of the motions by the Belarusian side, which could allow the court to adjudicate well, was granted,” the spokesperson noted. He informed that in the next two summer months the court won’t work because of summer vacations. The consideration of the case is planned on September 7 this year.

“The Justice Ministry sincerely hopes that in the main proceedings the case would be considered objectively, justly, thoroughly, basing upon legal arguments of the sides exclusively,” the Justice Ministry of Belarus states.

As it was informed earlier, the first session of the CIS Economic Court took place on 21 April. The court decided to entertain the action of the Belarusian government against the Russian government regarding the violation of existing treaties on free trade and on the customs union due to Russia’s introduction of duties on the oil products it exports to Belarus since January 1, 2010. The Economic Court of the CIS received the statement of claim of the Belarusian government on March 26, 2010.
