Belarus becomes Azerbaijan’s second debtor after Georgia

15

The information was spread by the Azerbaijani media. According to them, Baku granted a $200 million debt to Tbilisi earlier.

As the Azerbaijani press writes, the Belarusian ruler called Aliyev a ‘friend’ when asking a loan in Azerbaijan.

On June 22, the Administration of the Azerbaijan’s President reported about a telephone conversation between Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Ilham Aliyev, during which a short-term loan to Belarus was agreed upon, Radio Svaboda informs.

Azerbaijani observers think Aliyev’s friendly gesture is connected with a desire of Baku to have economic and military partners and allies among Russia’s neighbours, namely Ukraine and Belarus.

We remind that Belarus lent money from Azerbaijan to pay the debt to Russian Gazprom, Alyaksandr Lukashenka told in an interview to Euronews last week.

“We asked them to give us a respite for two weeks to repay our debt. But our allies, the closest people to us, said: “We ill not wait even a day.” I addressed Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, and it him a day, even less than a day to lend me $200 million,” he said.
