Monument to John Paul II desecrated in Belarus

The monument to Pope John Paul II in Vitsebsk was desecrated at night June 29.
According to preliminary information, the monument was damaged by two young guys. It is unknown whether the vandals were detained, “Belorusski Partizan” reports.
The monument to John Paul II was set in Vitsebsk in 2008. The monument’s height with a base is 4.5 meters, Interfax informs. It was opened to mark the 30th anniversary of John Paul II election as pope.
The first monument to John Paul II in Belarus was erected in the village of Mosar (Vitsebsk region) near St Anna Church in 2005, some months after the pope’s death.
