Members of the “house of representatives” ask Lukashenka to convene a special session.
Members of the lower house of the Belarusian “parliament” adopted a draft resolution on Addressing the President of Belarus proposing to convene the fifth special session of the “house of representatives”, Interfax news agency reports.
“Tasks set by Lukashenka in his address to the people of Belarus and parliament are impossible to implement on time if significant documents, including those in financial and economic spheres, are not adopted,” Vasili Baikou, the chairman of the standing commission of the lower house of the “parliament” on state construction, local governance and procedure, said introducing the draft resolution.
As the agency’s correspondent says, the MEPs do not plan to consider the issues on Belarus’s joining the Customs Union at the special session.
To a question if a date of the presidential elections can be put on the agenda of the session, Baikou noted that under the electoral legislation a date of the presidential election can be appointed not later than 5 months before the expiration of authorities of the previous President. However, Baikou didn’t give a direct answer to the question. “The agenda of the special session is defined by the president. We plan to consider some issues on budget, but the final version of the agenda will be determined by the head of state,” Baikou added.
