Incident in Belarus: Drunk policeman shot in girl’s head with gun

Journalists talked to witnesses of the incident in Rahachou district where a local police officer shot at a girl from a pistol.

The only official report states: on July 6 at 11 p.m. in an official use car a local police officer of Rahachou police department wounded a 22-year-old girl, a dweller of the village of Zhuravuchy, Rahachou district, with a service weapon. It happened while the policeman was on duty protecting public order.

A reporter of “Belorusskiye novosti” went to the village of Zhuravuchy and talked to the friends of the victim. Their names are not revealed on their request.

Victim

A 22-year-old Nina received a serious craniocerebral injury as a result of the shot. At the moment she is in the intensive care department, and she is in a grave state, without any changes.

The girl worked as a bookkeeper in “Novye Zhuravichy” communal agricultural unitary enterprise. Rumours tat Nina had some special relations with the police officer from Kurhan are refuted by her friends. “She did not have any romantic relations with that policeman. Earlier, maybe half a year ago, he tried to court Nina, but she spurned him. She just mixed with everybody, she was a cheerful and outgoing girl,” told one of Nona’s friends.

Suspect

In the rural council of Kurhan, where the 34-year-old suspected worked as a policeman, and in which he is a deputy at the same time, he received a totally positive characterization.

And the girls who celebrated Kupalle (Kupala Night,a folk holiday) together with the policemen on July 6, state the opposite. “He was rude, aggressive. He was drunk that evening, he was talking nonsense, he lost his pistol’s holster, he fell on a tree stub and was seriously wounded, we even thought that his rib was fractured,” a friend of the injured girl said about the policeman. “He made rude suggestions to Nina, he called Nina for about a month, but she rejected him,” girls say.

Jan Kupala Night

As said by the girls, the company started to celebrate Kupala Night at the lake near Zhuravichy.

“When we arrived to the lake, the policeman was there already. He was drunk, he was very rude, he fell and lost his pistol’s holster on the stump,” said one of the girls.

As said by her, the suspect was in a company with other policemen, but “they were not so drunk as he was”.

And then the company, three policemen and three girls, got onto a car and went to Dousk, in order to buy alcohol.

“We were standing on a car parking not far from a café. That policeman was going to return home and demanded his gun to be given back to him. Another policeman was holding his pistol, as the suspect was very drunk. And so that policeman returned the gun. While the pistol was given back, the suspect brushed against Nina, and she made a remark to him. Then he pointed the gun and made a shot. The bullet entered the girl’s head,” says the witness of the event.

According to unofficial reports, the whereabouts of the second local police officer who was also un the car are unknown. At least, his home and mobile phones are not answering.
