President of Moldova invited to Minsk

24

The leader of Moldova Mihai Ghimpu and the chairman of the “Council of the Republic” of “the national assembly” of Belarus Anatoly Rubanau (Rubanov met in Geneva.

As “Ezhednevnik” informs, Minsk is gradually rings Russia around by a belt of countries which have issues with the Kremlin. Last century such a policy against Russia had been pursued by Europe, and Western Belarus was a part of such a belt.

After the statement of Saakashvili on Belarusian TV, an interview with Latvian president Valdis Zatlers is to be broadcasted on July 22 as well. And on July 20 a report from Geneva was received that the acting president of Moldova, the chairman of Moldova’s parliament Mihai Ghimpu and the chairman of the “Council of the Republic” of “the national assembly” of Belarus Anatoly Rubanau met there. Mihai Ghimpu was invited to visit Belarus.

Mihai Ghimpu’s supporters and Minsk have things to charge the Kremlin with. For instance, to solve the common “philological issue”, as Russia still uses the old imperial names for the countries: Moldavia instead of Moldova, and Belorussia instead of Belarus.

Anatoly Rubanau and Mihai Ghimpu exchanged opinions on social and economic situation in the both countries and in the region.

It is stated civilly that the topics of implementing a number of joint projects, developing cooperation, implementation of a number of joint projects, the creation of the Belarusian-Moldovan joint companies to provide the sales markets of the two countries with qualitative products and services were touched upon. Mihai Ghimpu has also stressed the importance to develop cooperation to the benefit of the citizens of Belarus and Moldova. He has called upon Belarus to establish necessary economic mechanisms to export Moldovan wines to the Belarusian market. Mihai Ghimpu has asked the Belarusian authorities to provide assistance to mitigate the consequences of the floods taken place in Moldova this year including the construction of houses for the victims.

The sides discussed the Transdniestria problem which concerns Mr Ghimpu and his supporters. They noted that the stability in the region depends on the good relations between the neighboring countries, Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus. Russia was not named among the neigbours.

And finally, Anatoly Rubinau invited Mihai Ghimpu to pay an official visit to Minsk to discuss the goals of the bilateral and regional cooperation.

In case the standoff between Belarus and Russia continues with the same ardour, it is not excluded that in the near future Belarusians would observe at their TV screens or just in the wide avenues of Minsk motorcades with leaders of Estonia, Japan (which does not have a peace with Russia), or even Barack Obama (who had a spy scandal, as is known) as guests. Anything is possible.
