Authorities deceived cheated interest-holders

Minsk officials offered to “sink or swim” to cheated interest-holders.

Yesterday evening when defendants in the so-called case of Terrastrojinvest returned from the court of Pershamajski district to their remand prison and were getting ready for a supper, turbulent passions ran high in the assembly hall of the palace of culture of the woolen cloth plant. (Terrastrojinvest case is related to fraud during construction of a apartment house in Prytytski street).

Several hundreds of cheated interest-holders were looking for a solution how and where to live in the future. Emotions were boiling over, and some people even called upon taking to the streets and stage a protest rally, “Belorusskiye novosty” write.

An offer to hold such a rally was made when Alyaksandr Shershen, acting head of housing policy department of Minsk city executive committee, and Alyaksandr Dauhala, deputy head of Frunzenski district administration, who were attending the meeting, said plainly to the victims of the crime that most of them should count upon their own resources only, and left the meeting. The assembly hall was fuming, and Vasily Mikhnevich, chairman of the public association “Cheated interest-holders” had a great tug to calm down members of the association enraged by the bluntness of the officials.

The problem is that in this case officials cannot jump over their own heads and step over the bounds of the laws currently in action. But Lukashenka can.

We remind that on April 20 Alyaksandr Lukashenka in his annual address to the nation and the National Assembly, said the following: “Cheated interest-holders are an acute problem which has been caused by the housing problem. There more than 500 of them in Minsk only. Swindlers who make money off other people’s misery should be stopped strictly”.

Some of the cheted interest-holders met his words as an order to executive authorities to solve their problem, by giving them flats or money. They hoped for a cheap loan at 5% a year at least. And now it turns out that not much time is left till the end of summer, and there is no clarity in this problem. Moreover, as Alyaksandr Shershen said at the meeting, at the moment a decree of the Council of Ministers is being drafted for credits on easy terms only for those cheated interest-holders who are registered by the state as those who are in need of improved housing conditions, or had sold their flats and have no other place to live, or have a disabled person among their family members. There are about 100 of such persons among the 493 victims of the crime. But the leader of the state promised “to make full requital” to everyone!
