Criminal case opened upon German pilot’s death in Belarus

A criminal case has been initiated for “violation of safety rules”.

The Belarusian Military Prosecutor’s Office has initiated criminal proceedings upon death of a German pilot as a result of a helicopter crash during a stunt show near Minsk at the 2010 Open CIS Helicopter Cup, “Interfax-Zapad” was told by the Belarusian Military Prosecutor’s Office on Monday.

“A criminal case has been opened upon Article 314 Part 2 “Violation of traffic safety rules or air transport operation rukes which caused a death” of the Criminal Code of Belarus.

A decision would be following the results of the investigation, the Belarusian Military Prosecutor’s Office notes.

Last Sunday during 2010 Open CIS Helicopter Cup a helicopter crashed and a pilot was killed.

The helicopter with its pilot Guenter Zimmer fell on the ground and burst into flames during a stunt show, when a pilot lopped the loop.

The Open CIS Helicopter Cup was held under the aegis of the Voluntary Association for Assistance to Army, Aviation and Fleet.
