Potato and petrol prices growing in Belarus

The National Statistics Committee released official comparative data on price changes in Belarus.
Potato increased in price by 35.2%, sugar – 29.5%, petrol – 21.5% in the first half of 2010 YOY, AFN news agency reports.
In general, the consumer price index for the reporting period amounts to 106.6%. The food price index is a bit higher reaching 107%. The price indexes on non-food products and services were 107.4% and 104.6% respectively.
Besides the above mentioned products groups, a significant growth was noticed in prices for vegetables (a rise of 19.3% in comparison with the first half of 2009 with only a 1.3% increase in fruit prices), butter (15.1%), tea (11.6%), alcoholic beverages (10.2%).
Among non-food products the most notable growth was demonstrated by medications (15.7%), writing materials (13.6%), and toiletries (10%).
Among services, the price rise affected theatres (16.4%), urban transport (14.2%), pre-school institutions (10.9%), personal services (10.5%), and health reports (10.4%).
