Belarus wants to buy S-400 defense system from Russia

Moscow is ready to supply S-400 air defense systems to Belarus

Pre-contractual work is carried out concerning some of the complexes already, and some are just studied and worked through.

Belarus is considering the issue of buying air defence missile system S-400 from Russia.

BelTA has been informed about that by Commander-in-Chief of the Belarusian Air and Air Defence Force, Major General Ihar Azaronak.

“As any military forces, we are striving to perfect our types of armaments. We are considering different ways of equipping Belarus’ Air and Air Defense Force with various defense systems, including the S-400,” Ihar Azaronak said.

As said by the commander-in-chief, pre-contractual work is carried out for some systems, while others are still studied and worked through. Speaking about production capabilities of Russia to supply S-400 surface-to-air missile system to other countries, Ihar Azakonak noted that they are not enough still.

“We are studying S-400 now, sizing it up. It is a modern surface-to-air missile system, which could replace the systems we have now, and would allow us to meet air threats successfully. That is why such systems are certainly necessary, but it is another matter that their time has not come for us yet,” Major General said.

We remind that at the session of the CIS Air Defense Coordinating Committee on issues of Air Defence under the Council of Defence Ministers of the CIS countries in Moscow in July, Russia stated its readiness to supply air defence missile systems S-400 to Belarus.
