Minsk City Court leaves Mikhail Bashura in custody

On August 31, Minsk City Court refused to release Mikhail Bashura, an activist of Tell the Truth campaign, from custody.

Bashura’s lawyer Tamara Sidarenka filed an appropriate cassation appeal to court, “Belorusski Partizan” informs.

Minsk City Court ruled out Bashura had been taken into custody on legal basis, as a criminal case over document forgery had been opened against him. We remind that the activist has been in custody since August 6.

According to the lawyer, one can hardly find people in Belarus who are thrown behind bars over this article of the Criminal Code.

The oppositionist is accused of committing a crime provided for by parts 1 and 2 of article 380 of the Criminal Code (forgery, fabrication, use or sale of false documents, stamps, seals, printed forms. Two years ago he was a guarantor for his wife who took a credit. Bashura allegedly submitted a forged salary slip overstating his income.
