General Hryb: Authorities are in panic fear

The draft law “On KGB activity” “demonstrates the panic fear the authorities have of the future”.

“I have never seen anything like that – these broad rights and power for KGB officers,” retired police general lieutenant Mechyslau Hryb, a former speaker of the Supreme Council, said in an interview to BelaPAN news agency.

Hryb turned attention to footnotes in the draft law that make it incorrect. “For instance, a footnote in the article about the use of weapons after listing permitted cases says that weapons can be used in other cases on a decision of the president. What is it for? What are these cases? I’ve read the document and I regret we live in these times,” Mechyslau Hryb said.

As reported earlier, amendments to the law on state security bodies allow secret services officers to freely enter any residential or office buildings at any time (except for diplomatic and consul premises and other representation offices belonging to foreign states and international organizations). They also have the right to use physical force and special means not bringing responsibility for possible consequences.
