Central Bank “will lift” its restriction on foreign currency sales on “Fool’s Day”

On April 1st Central Bank of Belarus will lift its recently-imposed foreign currency sales restriction for local banks requiring them to book the sales 30 days in advance…But certain limitations will still exist.

The booking arrangements to purchase foreign currency for the banks are to be brought to the previous scheme – one business day in advance of the sales, stated in a press-release by Central Bank.

Without exceeding the total amount of foreign currency requested for purchase, Central Bank will favor those financial institutions that intend to utilize foreign currency for the following “privileged” purposes: to pay for medical supplies, to pay for natural gas supplies, to repay foreign currency credits and so like.

Those who weren’t lucky to obtain foreign currency will still have to fish for Euros and dollars on the “Black Market”, where dollar exchange rate has reached 3750-3800 Belarusian rubles.
