Marek Migalski cannot enter Belarus

Member of the European Parliament Marek Migalski has been banned from entering Belarus.

Viasna human rights centre learnt this on July 27 from the head of the citizenship and migration office of the Kastrychnitski district police department of Minsk.

Marek Migalski planned to pay a visit to Belarus on August 12 –16. The MEP's bureau sent an official request to his friends from the human rights centre to make an invitation for Migalski.

Human rights activist Dzmitry Salauyou filed an application to the citizenship and migration office of the Kastrychnitski district police department of Minsk. The application was accepted by office head Dzyanis Matus.

Salauyoiu says that five minutes after he had left the building, he received a telephone call from the office head, who said his friend was “denied entry to the country”. Asked by the human rights activist, he promised to send a written reply.

The member of the European Parliament and substitute in the Delegation for Relations with Belarus, Marek Migalski keeps a close eye on the situation in Belarus since the events on December 19, 2010.

The latest campaign which Migalski joined was prisoner's godparenthood campaign initiated by Libereco - Partnership for Human Rights. The MEP said he suported Zmitser Bandarenka and his family.
