Ales Byalyatski’s wife denied meeting with her husband

Natallya Byalyatsaya, the wife of human rights activist Ales Byalyatski, was denied meeting with her husband.

As the website spring96.org reports, the reason is unknown. Natallya Byalyatskaya has not seen her husband since August 5, when the human rights activist was transferred from the preliminary investigation office of the financial investigation department of the State Control Committee to the first temporary detention facility.

The Vice President of the International Federation for Human Rights and chairman of Viasna Human Rights Centre (which was closed by the Belarusian authorities), Ales Byalyatski was detained in Minsk on August 4. He was taken under custody on August 5. On August 12, the human rights activist was charged in violating part 2 of article 243 of the Criminal Code (tax evasion on an especially large scale). The measure of restraint was prolonged for two months.

The arrest of Ales Byalyatski evoked a wide response all over the world. The authorities of the EU, the US and other states, human rights groups, famous public activists and politicians urge to release the human rights activist.
