Martin Schulz: All political prisoners should be released

The new president of the European Parliament condemned the court decision in Byalyatski’s case.

He also commented on the death sentence for Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavalyou, Euroradio informs.

The EP president said he deplored the decision by the Minsk district court to dismiss an appeal against a four and a half year prison sentence for Ales Byalyatski. He said January 24 was “another bad day for justice in Belarus”. Schulz stressed Byalyatski and other 14 political prisoners should be released.

Martin Schulz called on Lukashenka to pardon Kanavalau and Kavalyou and introduce a moratorium on the death penalty.
