Belsat journalist announces hunger strike

Just after the court delivered its judgement, Alyaksandr Barazenka has announced hunger strike protesting against illegal arrest.

The people, detained yesterday near the KGB building, were tried today. Judge Alyaksandr Khadanovich sentenced journalist Alyaksandr Barazenka to 11 days in custody for taking part in an unauthorized action (article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences of Belarus). Judge Ivan Maiseichyk sentenced Mikita Kavalenka to 15 days in custody.

We remind Mikita Kavalenka unfurled a Belarusian national white-red-white flag and portraits of political prisoners at the steps of the KKGB building. The picket lasted about a minute. People in mufti ran out of the KGB building and took the guy inside.

An independent journalist, who was filming the picket, was also detained.
