Police to be given free hand

Lukashenka demands to give more power to police officers.
“We should think about giving more power to the police. Neither a district police officer nor a minister should drop in the same place ten times and convince someone. A policeman should appear once and demand a person to perform his or duties on the ground of clearly set regulations,” Lukashenka said on Monday hearing the report of interior minister Ihar Shunevich, Interfax news agency reports.
“Thus officials in the police and not only there will have more power,” the head of state noted.
It’s worth noting that human rights activists and international organizations say the Belarusian police already have enough power, especially when it comes to repressions and crackdown on dissidents.
