Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu: Sanctions should not be lifted

Ulradzimir Nyaklyaeu, a presidential candidate and leader of Tell the Truth campaign, is unalterably opposed to reviewing sanctions.

As said by head of the Office for a Democratic Belarus Volha Stuzhynskaya, extending visa restrictions against new officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is not effective now. Volha Stuzhynskaya thinks the list of people subject to travel restrictions should be reviewed.

These statements provoked a hot discussion in the Belarusian society.

Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu, a presidential candidate and leader of Tell the Truth campaign, is totally against revising sanctions:

“In my opinion, it’s not the best time to lift sanctions. Sannikov is in prison, Statkevich is in prison, Bandarenka is in prison and it does not seem he will be pardoned. Amid tension around Sannikov and the election this statement causes irritation. The EU, and the whole West, should take the measures able to influence the situation in Belarus. Or they should give it up, but not pretend they want to influence the situation,” the politician said.
