Syarhei Kavalenka weighs 51 kilograms

An activist of the Conservative Christian Party Belarusian Popular Front Syarhei Kavalenka from Vitsebsk continues his hunger strike.

His weight is 51 kilogram already, while his height is 1 metre 82 centimetres, Radio Racyja informs.

On March 12 in the afternoon his wife Alena Kavalenka is to meet with him. The oppositionist on hunger strike is in the Republican Prison Hospital now. It is situated at the territory of Minsk remand prison. As said by Alena Kavalenka, the permission for a meeting had been issued by Judge Zhuk from Vitsebsk, who had convicted Kavalenka. It is the last permission this month.

- I have permission for the last meeting this month. His mother is to visit him later. Syarhei continues his hunger strike, his weight is 51 kilograms already. It is bad, really bad… His motions are slowed down already.

Syarhei Kavalenka started a hunger strike on December 19, 2011. In 30 days he suspended it under the pressure of the administration of Vitsebsk remand prison. He resumed it on February 8.

Kavalenka was condemned for evasion from the punishment in the form of restriction of freedom for 2 years and a month. He had been sentenced to restriction of freedom for hoisting a white-red-white flag on a New Year Tree in Vitsebsk.
