Kavalenka's wife and 7-month daughter detained in Vitsebsk

Alena Kavalenka, her daughter, activist Syarhei Parsyukevich and some other people were taken to police.

Syarhei Parsyukevich said about the incident on the phone.

The people were detained by road police, Radio Svaboda reports.

Alena Kavalenka and her kids held a public action some days ago to support her husband, Syarhei Kavalenka, who continues his hunger strike. Syarhei Pratasiewicz and other activists joined the action.

Syarhei Kavalenka, an activist of the CCP-BPF party from Vitsebsk, went on hunger strike on December 19, 2011. He took a short break, but still continues the hunger strike since February 8. Syarhei Kavalenka was sentenced to two years and a month in a minimum security penitentiary for violation of probation. He was earlier given a suspended sentence for handing out a national white-red-white flag on a Christmas Tree in Vitsebsk. He went on hunger strike to express his protest against the court decision. As of March 12, Syarhei Kavalenka weighted 51 kilograms and his body temperature was 35.2 °C.
