Presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich receives notices “The letter failed to pass censorship” instead of letters.
This information was spread by Leanid Haravy, an activist of For Freedom movement, who holds correspondence with the political prisoner.
Haravy says he received a postcard from Mikalai Statkevich who writes he received an empty envelope with a notice “The letter failed to pass censorship”, Viasna human rights centre reports.
“I do not know about letters from other people, but it has been the second case of destroying my letters to Mikalai Statkevich. My letter was destroyed in the penal colony in Shklou and now another one was destroyed in Mahilou,” Haravy says.
On January 12, Mikalai Statkevich was tried in the Shklou penal colony. Judge Vitaly Volkau ruled out to toughen the regime for the politician.
Mikalai Statkevich was reported on January 14 to have been transferred from Shklou to prison No. 4 in Mahilou.
Presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich was given a 6-year sentence for organizing protests against the rigged election results on December 19, 2010.
