Chernobyl Way rally permitted

The Minsk city executive committee has allowed holding Chernobyl Way 2012 rally.

BelaPAN news agency has learned the information from Dzyanis Sadouski, an executive secretary of the organizing committee to create the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party (BCD) and one of the applicants for the rally.

According to him, the applicants for the rally visited the Minsk city executive committee this morning to take a written permission to hold the traditional annual rally in the capital on April 26. The rally organizers and representatives of the city authorities discussed technical issues relating to the event.

The application for the street action was filed on April 10. Organizers asked to carry out a march from the building of the National Science Academy Presidium along Surhanau Street to the Park of Peoples' Friendshift from 6:30 to 7:30 pm and hold a mourning meeting in the park.

The event is to end with laying flowers to the Chernobyl chapel near the Church in honour of the icon of Our Lady “Seeking of the lost” situated near the park.

The organizers of Chernobyl Way 2012 said earlier they wanted to voice out demands to “stop construction of the NPP in Astravets” at the rally. Besides the ecological problem, other hot questions, among them the released of political prisoners, will be raised.

Chernobyl Way has been held annually since 1988 in Minsk as a march and a rally of democratic forces representatives. The year 2011 was an exclusion because the Minsk city authorities forbade to have a rally in a traditional form.
