Policemen are trying to find out who had brought white-red-white flags to the church celebration.
On May 8 in Slonim memorial days dedicated to martyrdom of Greek Catholic Exarch of Belarus Anton Nemantsevich and his Palesye and Hrodna region congregation members were held, Viasna human rights centre’s website informs. The secretary of the Congregation on affairs of Eastern Churches, Archbishop Kiryl Vasil took part in the commemorative prayer.
Solemn assemblies were held in the Albiartsin suburb of Slonim, in the Church of the Peace Queen, and also in the center of the city, in St. Andrew's church and gathered several hundreds of believers. Some of them came to the celebrations with white-red-white flags. However, nobody expelled or warned them. Only after the end of the events officers of the Slonim District Police Department started asking who held the flags. As it turned out, these believers came to pray for Anton Nemantsevich from other cities.
