NGO assembly still hopes to hold congress in IBB

The Assembly of Non-Governmental organisations hope on that the congress would be held in the premises of the International Educational centre.

We remind that the congress of the Assembly of Non-Governmental organisations is planned for May 5-6. Representatives of about 200 organisations, members of the Assembly, are going to take part in the congress. However, yesterday official information emerged that the organisers failed to make an agreement with IBB centre in Minsk, Euroradio informs.

The process of talks is going on, and the organisers have not received an official denial from the IBB. It has been told by the head of the executive bureau of the NGO Assembly Syarhei Lisichonak:

“So far I cannot say that we have any official denial in written form. Now we are in a situation when the positions of the sides are being clarified. And for now I would rather call that a misunderstanding, and we are trying to solve that.”

The final result of the talks is to become known until the end of this day.

As said by Lisichonak, the technical support for holding the congress is continued to be prepared. It is planned to elect new leadership there, to discuss the state of the civil society, development of regional initiatives, mass media, interaction with the political sector and other issues.

Over the period of 15 years the assembly had tried to obtain legal status in Belarus, but the Ministry of Justice denied registration for different reasons. In July 2011 the Assembly was registered in Lithuania.
