Siargey Basharymau doesn’t want to talk to the press

Siargey Basharymau would like to be left alone for several days, to recover after the arrest. His mother Ludzmila Basharymava told Radio Svaboda that he apologizes for not being able to talk to journalists:

“Siargey says that he’s doing fine, he’s sorry but he doesn’t want to meet with the press now. He and Iryna have left Minsk for a while to get some fresh air and just be together. My son also said that he won’t get back to his work right away. His name is on all the company’s papers, telephones from announcements. Nothing was working without him.”

Ludzmila herself hasn’t seen her son yet. Before his release on 17 August, she had left to Mahiliou to visit her daughter. Late at night on 17 August, Siargey’s girlfriend Iryna Lagoyka managed to find him. She doesn’t take phone calls.

Siargey Basharymau, a real estate agent from Minsk, was arrested on 6 July for having leased an apartment to Swedes in May. The same Swedes, as it turned out later, have organized the flight over Minsk and Ivianiets. On 17 August Basharymau was released on his own recognizance.
