Niakliaeu was not let to the “Dancing Bear”

The translation of Uladzimir Niakliaeu’s book by famous Finish writer Yukka Malinen is being presented to the public on 31 January in Helsinki.

The name of the book is “Red Sunset”, Radio Svaboda reports.

Uladzimir Niakliaeu appealed to the Belarusian authorities asking to let him leave the country in order to be there at the presentation.

“Unfortunately, I was denied. That is why I cannot be at the reception tonight. I know that the meeting will be conducted by a translator Yukka Malinen”, - Uladzimir Niakliaeu said.

Yukka Malinen received a prestigious Finish award the “Dancing Bear” for the translations of Uladzimir Niakliaeu’s poems made for this book.

According to a court’s resolution, Uladzimir Niakliaeu must staty at home from 8 p.m. till 6 a.m., regularly register himself at a police station and not leave Minsk. A criminal and correction inspection previously made official warnings to Niakliaeu for violating the regime.

A former presidential candidate, political prisoner Uladzimir Niakliaeu has been sentenced to two years of imprisonment with a two year postponement. Amnesty International recognizes him as a prisoner of conscience.
