Anastasia Dashkevich: Zmitser looks bad after 6 months in punishment cells

The imprisoned leader of Young Front had the first meeting with his wife.

The meeting was held in the Hrodna prison today.

Anastasia Dashkevich told charter97.org how it had gone.

“We spoke though the glass barrier in a small room in the presence of policemen. The meeting lasted for 2 hours. We spoke about our friends and daily routine. We didn't touch politics or the situation in the country, because the meeting could be ended,” she said.

Anastasia Dashkevich notes her husband is still in a solitary confinement cell, but he doesn't complain about confinement conditions.

“He looks cheerful, but I see that the is tired. His face changed. There are signs that he spent two years in prison, including six months in punishment cells,” she says. According to the wife of the political prisoner, he does not hope for early release and says it's depend on the authorities when he will be freed.

It should be reminded that Young Front leader Zmitser Dashkevich and Young Front deputy head Anastasia Dashkevich married in the Hrodna prison in late December 2012. They were able to see each other only 10 minutes on that day.

Young Front head Zmitser Dashkevich was sentenced to 2 years in prison in 2011 for hooliganism. He and Young Front member Eduard Lobau were accused of beating strangers in the street a day before the presidential elections. Dashkevich didn't admit his guilt at the trial and called the incident a provocation orchestrated by the secret services.

Dashkevich spent one year in a minimum security penal colony in Horki. He was then transferred to a penal colony in Hlybokaye as a persistent violator of prison rules. He was tried again and sentenced to an additional year in prison.
