Eduard Lobau to meet with priest in prison

Priest Dzmitry, who serves in the Slutsk district, plans to visit a political prisoner and hear his confession.

The news was received from Eduard Lobau's mother. The priest plans to visit the correctional colony on October 14, Radio Svaboda reports.

“Priest Dzmitry visited my son before. They know each other well and trust each other,” Maryna Lobava says. According to her, the confession takes place in the presence of a prison officer, so it rather resembles a conversation about forbidden topics and reflections about the actions that are not mentioned aloud. Maryna Lobava says what priest Dzmitry usually tells her after such meetings.

“He tells me about my son's physical state and news from his life. He cannot ask many questions about prison life, because Eduard is not allowed to say everything. They mostly speak about his state of mind, plans and daily routine.”

Young Front activist Eduard Lobau and Zmitser Dashkevich were tried for a brawl with a stranger a day before the 2010 presidential election. Lobau was sentenced to 4 years in a correctional colony on Ivatsevichy. Human rights activists considered Eduard Lobau a political prisoner.
