Baumgertner arrested in Russia in absentia

Moscow's Basmanny District Court placed Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner under arrest in absentia. Baumgertner is currently under house arrest in Belarus.

“Baumgertner has been placed under arrest in absentia upon the request of investigators,” the court's spokesperson, Natalya Romanova, told Interfax on Monday.

The restriction will be in effect for two months after the businessman arrives in Russia, according to her.

“Under the case materials, he is charged under part 2 of article 201 of the Criminal Code of Russia (abuse of power),” the court's representative said.

We remind that Russia is going to demand the extradition of Vladislav Baumgertner. The Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against Uralkali CEO for this purpose.

Belarusian ruler Lukashenka said today that Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner could be extradited to Russia only after compensation for the damage to the Belarusian side.
