Putin and Lukashenka discuss Uralkali issue

The heads of state briefly touched on the issue of Uralkali during a bilateral meeting.

Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian president, said in on the phone on Friday.

“It [the Urakali issue] was mentioned briefly,” Peskov told RIA Novosti.

Lukashenka and Putin held bilateral talks late at night after the session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.

The law-enforcement bodies of the two countries are working on the situation of Uralkali. Moscow's Basmanny district court placed Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner under arrest in absentia on October 21. Baumgertner is now under house arrest in Belarus. Both Russia and Belarus opened criminal cases against him for abuse of power.

Russian investigative bodies said they wanted to prepare documents for Baumgertner's extradition. But Lukashenka said on October 21 that Belarus would extradite Baumgertner to Russia only if he compensated for the damage.
