National Bank: Belarusians busy buying foreign currency in September

In September 2013 Belarusians bought more foreign currency while in August forex purchases dropped by 1.5 times in comparison with July.

BelTA learned it from statistics released by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus.

In September 2013 natural persons sold the equivalent of $726.2 million in foreign currency ($735.6 million in August) and bought $1,058.1 million ($903.3 million). The net purchase of foreign currency amounted to $331.9 million, up from $167.7 million in August 2013.

From February till June natural persons sold more foreign currency than they bought. Experts attribute the trend’s reversal this summer to vacations and the conversion of ruble deposits into foreign currency ones. However, in September the purchase of foreign currency once again exceeded sale.

In January-September 2013 Belarusians sold the equivalent of $6,129.9 million in foreign currency and bought $7,418 million. The net purchase of foreign currency in the nine months amounted to $1.288.1 million.

In September 2013 resident corporations sold the equivalent of $1,837.1 million in foreign currency ($1,846.1 million in August) and bought $1,922.5 million ($2,019.5 million). The net purchase of foreign currency amounted to $85.4 million while in August the net purchase was $173.4 million. In January-September 2013 resident corporations sold the equivalent of $17,059.9 million in foreign currency and bought $16,633.9 million. The net sale of foreign currency amounted to $426 million.

In September 2013 non-resident corporations sold the equivalent of $274.6 million in foreign currency ($219.9 million in August) and bought $315.3 million ($301.2 million). The net purchase of foreign currency amounted to $40.7 million ($81.3 million in August). In January-September 2013 non-resident corporations sold the equivalent of $3,753.5 million in foreign currency and bought $4,440.7 million. The net purchase of foreign currency amounted to $687.2 million.

In accordance with statistics of the National Bank, the total net purchase of foreign currency amounted to $1,549.3 million in January-September 2013.

In January-September 2013 as much as $58,347.4 million in foreign currency was traded on the Belarusian currency market, with the average daily trade turnover at $290.1 million. In January-September the volume of transactions off the currency exchange amounted to $22,982.9 million while $23,138.8 million was traded via the Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange. In January-September 2013 as much as $12,225.7 million was traded on the cash foreign exchange market of the country.
