“When law turns into lawlessness, resistance becomes a duty”

The movie Long live Belarus! received the grand prix of the Austrian film festival GAFFA.

The Belarusian-Polish movie by the director Krzysztof Lukashewicz was awarded the grand prix – the Snow Bullet - and the audience prize. The GAFFA festival took place in Vienna on 3-5 October in the famous cinema center Urania, Radio Svaboda reports.

The jury explained the choice as follows: “We like the realism of the film a lot. The movie leaves the questions open, which provoke thoughts. Thus, not only it is the best movie, but the most informative. Its documentary character is retouched. We especially liked the great excitement it created during the showing. The movie is thought-out and built chronologically. It aims not only at showing the problems of Belarus, but the emergence of protest movements. The performance of the actors impresses. The cinematography, editing and sounds are flawless. The movie, which cannot be said anything negative about. People must see it”.

On the eve of the movie festival announcements of the movie were published in Austrian media as well as were available at advertisement points. The organizers produced postcards with a quotation from Goethe: “When law turns into lawlessness, resistance becomes a duty!”.

GAFFA is the only youth film festival in Austria. According to the official web-site, this year the movies from France, Japan, the USA, Indonesia, Canada and Poland were shown at the festival. They were different in genres, subjects and style.

Earlier the movie Long live Belarus! received awards at film festivals in Istanbul, Brussels, Gdynia and Warsaw.
