Sovetskaya Belorussia: EU lifts visa requirements to recruit new agents

Propagandists believe the visa regime with the EU cannot be softened.

“Hardly had the EU prolonged its silly and obviously illegal 'sanctions' against a number of Belarusian citizens and companies than the West sent our country new signals, this time of a completely different kind,” Usevalad Shymau, the son of a former minister of economy and now rector of the University of Economics, wrote in Sovetskaya Belorussia newspaper.

“It is done with a purpose. Western politology always divides civil society and the state. Playing on contradictions between the state and society has become the favourite tactic of western countries. Whom will a poor man blame for his problems when he has to stand in cold weather for hours to hear that he needs another document for the embassy? Of course, not abstract western bureaucrats who organise these humiliations, but his state: they failed to agree with 'civilised Europe' and ordinary citizens have to suffer.

Moreover, the unhealthy fuzz about Schengen visas with half-criminal grey schemes of all kinds around consulates and embassies has become of the EU instruments to press on Belarus,” the propagandist writes.

Shymau notes that the facilitation of the visa regime will only harm Belarusians.

“We cannot rule out the possibility that the visa facilitation proposed by the EU has the aim of looking for new priviledged partners in Minsk and expanding the social base of the European presence in Belarus. The facilitation of the visa regime will certainly increase the EU's rating in the eyes of many Belarusians and intensify Belarusian-European contacts in all directions that will be a convenient tool to recruit new agents of influence on Belarus,” the sums up.
