Stanislau Shushkevich: European Union is not coherent

This is how the first leader of independent Belarus assessed the information that the European Union may lift Uladzimir Makei’s visa ban.

“Unfortunately, I have long been receiving evidence that the European Union is not coherent. We already dealt with previous leaders, when Javier Solana came, then Benita Ferrero-Waldner, and they started kissing here with our leadership. I do not rule out, that they are not sure from this sickness. And that they digress from the main rule – the release of the political prisoners – does not make this respected organization look good. I think, such a measure will only contribute to the consolidation of the dictatorship here and the rotting of the political prisoners”, - Stanislau Shushkevich told Euroradio.

According to Shushkevich, the Minister of Foreign Affairs may only be crossed out of the black list of the European Union after the release of the political prisoners.
