The Ministry of Trade wants shops to verify a cardholder's identity.

Control over meeting requirements on using card terminals by staff of retail outlets will be tightened in Belarus. This statement was made by Volha Yazvinskaya, the chief specialist of the investment and technical development department at the Ministry of Trade, BelTA news agency reports.

According to her, the minister has ordered to get the issue under control.

In particular, special attention will be given to verification of a cardholder's identity. Besides, some stores ignore the requirement for cardholders to enter the PIN for every transaction.

The ministry plans to control fulfilling requirements on installing the necessary equipment for connecting card terminals. “We mean there should be a socket and an available phone line that could be used only for this purpose,” Volha Yazvinskaya said. “There must be access to the internet for the payment terminals that require the internet connection.”
